Prolonged inflammation can lead to complications like retinal detachment or glaucoma, which is not only blinding but painful, according to the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Colorado State University. It notes that the success rate of cataract surgery is 85% to 90%.
These studies indicate influenza D is likely what's called an emerging virus. It's jumping into people who work with animals, such as dairy farmers, but it's not likely spreading much beyond that.
