Dr. Dean Hendrickson was named one of Colorado State University’s best teachers at the 2018 Best Teacher Awards, selected by a committee of students, alumni, faculty and staff.

Instead of a long interview, social media manager Ashley Manweiler created a Buzzfeed list of Hendrickson’s top 10 study tips. After she explained to him what Buzzfeed is, the good-natured professor was all in. This is the same faculty member who let us film him reading a Dr. Seuss book to a horse. No wonder he’s beloved!

Hendrickson earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at CSU in 1988, and is a professor of equine surgery at the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital. He is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, and has invented an artificial skin product for students to practice on called SurgiReal.

Nominator’s comment: “My favorite part of being in class with Dr. Hendrickson is the humor that he injects into each lecture. As a veterinary student, I spend many hours sitting in class, taking notes on endless slide show presentations, and somehow Dr. Hendrickson makes all of that less important because what he is saying is interesting and realistic (in a way that) I can actually see myself being able to be a veterinarian myself one day.”
