Dr. Nicholas H. Booth

Jacksonville, FL - Dr. Nicholas H. Booth, age 98, peacefully passed away in the presence of family at his home in Jacksonville, FL on 3/28/22. He had an amazing life. He was born in a farmhouse near Hannibal Missouri. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He began his veterinary practice in Missouri in 1947 after graduation with his DVM from Michigan State University. In 1948, he relocated his family to Fort Collins after accepting a teaching position at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado A & M College. He was promoted in rank, ultimately to Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University from 1966-1971. Dr. Booth was Director of the FDA Veterinary Medical Research division from 1971-1974 and retired in 1985 after 11 subsequent years as a University of Georgia pharmacology professor and researcher. He published extensively in respected journals, and authored chapters and co-edited a veterinary pharmacology book in use world-wide for over 35 years. Dr. Booth received many academic and alumni awards in his lifetime. He and his wife Jean relished spending time in the Poudre Canyon in the summers with their family and numerous friends. Dr. Booth is survived by his son, Richard Booth, his daughter, Diane Powell, his son-in-law, James Coombs, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. His wife, Jean, and his daughter, Debra Coombs, preceded him in death. Celebration of his life will be held at the Poudre Canyon Chapel sometime this summer.
