Bobbie Ray Bryant dies at 85
–Dr. Bobbie Ray Bryant, 85, of Templeton CA, passed Wednesday, April 11 peacefully at home in his sleep with Beethoven playing in the background and surrounded by his books.
To document all of Bob’s accomplishments, designations, awards and recognitions would take endless pages. Those of you that knew him remember his accomplished life.
His first job was working for his father’s trucking company in Evergreen Colorado. He was also an accomplished rodeo cowboy. He started his military career in ROTC at Colorado State. He was commissioned a lieutenant in the US Army. He majored in animal husbandry at Colorado State University and returned after his military service to complete his doctorate in veterinary medicine. Prior to graduation, Bob had always dreamed of practicing veterinary medicine in California. He discovered Paso Robles and knew it was where he would start his practice. He was very fond of the people and ranch community surrounding the area. Bob was a founder and Chairman of the Board of Heritage Oaks Bank until his retirement in 2007. He never quite retired from veterinary medicine. He was passionate about helping kids with 4-H and FFA animals.
He dedicated 55 years to the CA Mid-State Fair as the voluntary veterinarian on call and provided his services and supplies free of charge. Bob also started B.R Bryant Construction as a General Contractor and designed and built many residential and commercial properties in the area.
Bob was passionate about supporting the local community directly through his activities and philanthropic efforts. Some of his proudest efforts and achievements were development of the Cuesta College main campus, further development of the North County campus, the Pioneer Museum, the Paso Robles Masonic complex, development of Sherwood Park, and spearheading development of the Niblick Bridge to bring further growth and prosperity to the city. He was also a proud member of many local service clubs. If you didn’t know or haven’t guessed yet, yes, he was a proud Eagle Scout at the age of 16.
His greatest passion in life was his family. He is survived by his wife Helga, previous wife Jacqueline, 7 children, and 12 grandchildren. He will be missed by all, and in our hearts forever.
A ceremony will be held Friday April 20 at 4 p.m. at the Paso Robles Masonic Center, 320 Sherwood Road. A celebration of life and reception will follow. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Cuesta College Foundation or the Paso Robles Pioneer Museum.
