In an effort to help communities around the world adapt urban areas in light of COVID-19, Dr. David Rojas created an infographic that details 10 low-cost, temporary interventions to promote urban improvements and public health.

Anna Fagre, a veterinarian and postdoctoral fellow at Colorado State University who collaborates with Carlson’s project, proposes that we start by developing comprehensive measures for what a healthy wildlife population looks like.
A little over a year ago, Goodrich and several other scientists at Colorado State University dropped what they were doing and devoted their full attention to developing coronavirus vaccines, hoping to end what was then a very young pandemic.
Sometimes, symptoms of a disease are obvious – think of the mass mortality events observed in crows infected with West Nile Virus (a mosquito-borne virus that can also cause febrile illness in humans), says Angela Bosco-Lauth, a virologist and veterinarian and at Colorado State University. Often, signs are much subtler – if they are there at all.
As coronavirus (SARS CoV2) continues to wreak havoc across the globe, scientists from a variety of fields at CSU are bringing new ideas and adapting successful old ones to develop vaccines against COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus. “All coronaviruses are of animal origin. This (SARS CoV 2) is the seventh coronavirus that has been identified,” said Professor Raymond Goodrich, Director of the Infectious Disease Research Center at Colorado State University.
In January, CSU announced new COVID-19 screening guidelines for the spring semester that require about 12,000 students, faculty and staff to be screened each week for COVID-19.
The discovery has highlighted how little is known about Mycobacterium leprae, the bacterium that causes leprosy, says immunologist John Spencer of Colorado State University, Fort Collins. The chimp find suggests leprosy “has other niches that it has adapted to,” Spencer says.
In rural Alaska, amid a pandemic that has reached even the smallest village, a team of veterinarians is connecting to people, bringing healthy solutions to remote regions, sharing knowledge among partners and clients, and building relationships that grow into friendships that last a lifetime.
