Leaders in mycobacteria research are renewing efforts to bring the next generation of researchers to the table to make new discoveries and win the long game against tuberculosis and related diseases.
Edward “Ed” A. Hoover passed away peacefully on March 1, with family at his side. Ed was named one of twelve University Distinguished Professors at Colorado State University in 2004, elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2014, National Academy of Inventors in 2017, and received numerous other awards. Ed considered his most treasured accomplishment to be mentoring 27 graduate students, mostly DVM-PhDs, whose inquisitiveness and creativity he nurtured.

Records from Vesta's necropsy with Colorado State University's Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories showed the bird tested positive for the avian influenza H5 subtype, which has been found in birds all across the country.
Nearly 6.4 million birds in Colorado and 2.2 million in Utah have died since April 2022 in an outbreak that Colorado State University's Dr. Kristy Pabilonia called the worst she’s seen in the U.S. in her two-decade career monitoring avian diseases.
