Farm Progress: Colorado reports fourth EIA case

The investigation is ongoing, but it appears to be unrelated to the prior three cases of EIA reported in the state this year. The initial test was completed at Colorado State University’s Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in Rocky Ford, with the confirmatory test completed at the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa, in early December.

MSN: Mad Cow Disease Was Detected in Florida. Here's Why You Shouldn't Panic

The case identified in Florida was one of atypical BSE, which means it arose spontaneously. It occurred in a 6-year-old beef cow being raised in Florida, but it was tested at the Colorado State University Veterinary Diagnostics Laboratory “as part of routine surveillance of cattle that are deemed unsuitable for slaughter,” according to the USDA’s statement.

A horse residing in Larimer County has been diagnosed with West Nile virus (WNV); this is the first case of WNV in Colorado horses confirmed in 2018. The Colorado State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, in Fort Collins, confirmed the case on Aug. 15.

One horse residing in Larimer County has been diagnosed with West Nile Virus; this is Colorado’s first confirmed case of WNV in a horse in 2018. This index case was diagnosed by Colorado State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in Fort Collins on August 15, 2018.
