CVMBS wins five Celebrate! awards

Five members of the CVMBS community were honored at the Celebrate! Colorado State awards this year. Each April, CSU celebrates the teaching, research and service achievements of students, alumni and friends, academic faculty, administrative professionals and classified staff as part of the awards.

Kevin Ann Oltjenbruns Award for Outstanding Leadership

This award celebrates the significant and lasting impact of leadership for those who work to ensure the success of others with a commitment to equity and fairness.

Board of Governors’ Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award

Jennifer McLean

Jennifer McLean, Ph.D.

Jennifer McLean is known for taking difficult topics and using multiple, creative 2D and 3D approaches to make them accessible to students. This has been accomplished while teaching classes with very large enrollments – while also learning many of the students’ names.

In addition to her outstanding teaching in the classroom, she provides extensive mentoring to other faculty and undergraduate learning assistants. Her service related to teaching extends to both the department and the university.

She has won numerous teaching awards and publishes on the scholarship of teaching and leverages these scholarly works to inform her teaching. From a student perspective, she is highly regarded for her mentoring and connecting with students both in and outside the classroom, as evidenced by the strong student support letters.

Jeff Wilusz

Jeffrey Wilusz, Ph.D.

Jeffrey Wilusz has demonstrated excellence in teaching due to his coilability and mentorship within graduate education, his peer reviews and innovative approach.

Wilusz impressed the selection committee with his dedication to fostering inquiry and analysis of concepts and ideas, his ability to challenge and motivate students to explore and probe assumptions, and his research and scholarly activity.

In 2020, Wilusz received the Oliver P. Pennock Distinguished Service Award. He weaves his activities in each of his areas together with enthusiasm for science and education. His leadership and reputation within and outside of CSU serves to elevate those around him.

Wilusz has always stood out as a role model in the department, both to students as well as faculty peers. Over the years, his involvement in the multiple facets of the department has been wholly evident, and he excels in building community and encouraging quality.
