“I thought, if the drug is being safely used in pediatrics, why not dogs? If we can separate out the psychoactive and nonpsychoactive forms of cannabinoids, we can make it safe," recalls Stephanie McGrath, DVM, an assistant professor of neurology and neurosurgery at Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

Dr. Geoff Heffner and Melanie Joy of the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at CU Anschutz, were awarded a CCTSI pilot grant for promising CSU investigators and CU-CSU collaborations for "Medical Device for Kidney Disease Indication: from Canines to Humans."
The work is being led by Colorado State University’s Orthopaedic Research Center veterinarians, Drs Wayne McIlwraith, Frances Peat, and Chris Kawcak; and Dr Jeff Berk, from Lexington.
Dr. Steven Dow, professor of immunology and director of the Center for Immune and Regenerative Medicine at CSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, will present the Collegiate Peaks Forum Series Lecture “Stem Cell Therapy Today: Separating Reality from Hype” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, at the Buena Vista Community Center.

Dr. William V. Lumb passed away on Saturday, February 3. He graduated from Kansas State University in Veterinary Medicine in 1943. In 1963, Bill was made director of the surgical laboratory, a new facility on CSU's Foothills Campus, where he developed a graduate teaching and research program in surgery and anesthesiology.
The CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital holds its 39th annual Open House 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 21.
To assist the areas of Colorado most affected by the drought, and at risk for subsequent fire and flood, three free workshops are being offered by CSU Extension, in Dove Creek in Dolores County, Salida in Chaffee County and Las Animas in Bent County.
“The people affected by the disease are the most neglected, living in areas far away from health centres,” Dr. Francisco Olea-Popelka says. “They are the very same people in charge of producing the food for the rest of us.”
