CSU celebrates its first astronaut scholar

An associate professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, David Douphrate began researching the dairy industry in 2003 as a Ph.D student at Colorado State University. He said dairy workers are exposed to all kinds of injury from working with machinery, manure pits and, of course, cows.
The High Plains Intermountain Center for Agricultural Health and Safety, which works with the agriculture, forestry and fishing industries, hosted a research day to share information on emerging issues, immunology, engineering, economics, and anthropology.
Shaina Brown, a veterinary student at Colorado State University, presents research findings at this year's National Veterinary Scholars Symposium to Dr. Susan VandeWoude, who is associate dean for research and graduate education at CSU's College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. Julie Sowa practices holistic and therapeutic veterinary care. After graduating from Colorado State University in 2003, she went on to complete training in veterinary spinal manipulation (chiropractic) and veterinary acupuncture.
Attend a meet-and-greet appetizer reception with NASA astronaut Loren Shriver, followed by a presentation by Ben Fixman, the 2018 Astronaut Scholarship Foundation recipient from CSU, and a special lecture by Shriver.
Once a building contractor, Dr. Jon Geller started veterinary school at the age of 41. Now an emergency veterinarian who is board-certified in canine and feline practice, he has started several emergency clinics in Northern Colorado.
According to Dr. Scansen, the suite is truly one-of-a-kind. “The new operating room has capabilities that no other veterinary hospital in the world has. It’s not the first hybrid operating room that has been built, but it is the first in veterinary medicine that encompasses all of the advanced imaging capabilities that we have.”
