The Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VELRP), first created in 2017, will now pay up to $90,000 over four years to help licensed veterinarians in Colorado pay off their student debt as they work in underserved areas of the state.

The Veterinary Health and Education Complex (VHEC) will double the size of the already existing teaching hospital, allowing the school to admit an additional 30 students into its DVM program each year, making the class size around 170 students.
A State of Colorado program that helps pay off student loan debt for veterinarians who practice in under-served areas was expanded by the legislature this spring with additional funding and participant seats. The application period is now open.
Nadia Saklou first heard the term “clinician-scientist” while attending veterinary school at Colorado State. Now, with experience as both a clinician and scientist at Virginia Tech, she has become a clinician-scientist herself with a fellowship in hand that completes the circle back to Colorado State.

University of California-Davis (average rating of 4.5) was ranked first, Cornell University in Ithaca, New York was third, Ohio State ranked fourth and North Carolina State and the University of Pennsylvania tied for fifth.

Kremmling native and long-time veterinarian, John Martin Colburn passed away on March 31, 2023. He earned a bachelor's in animal production in 1962 and a DVM in 1967 from CSU.
